Get Naked

The sign that hangs on our sitting-room wall means a lot to us. It is not meant as a command; but rather as an invitation to anyone who knows we are nudists and is not sure about our in-house protocol, for them to feel free to go ahead and get naked (if we aren't already). It is also an assurance for anyone else who may feel the inclination to shed their clothing to feel free to do it here! But it's not only a invitation to get naked literally; it's also an invitation to get naked metaphorically. Getting naked together –with friends, with loved ones, or just the two of us– is bearing our bodies, exactly as they are, and without judgement, but it's also exposing our innermost thoughts and emotions and bearing our souls.

Naked living, for us, is being totally open, transparent and honest with each other. Nothing has the potential to hurt quite as much as a lie or an omission from someone you trust implicitly. Being totally open, transparent and honest can be far more difficult than merely taking your clothes off in front of someone else, but the prize is feeling huge release. Getting naked in this way is massively cathartic, therapeutic and liberating all at the same time.

"The Knight in Rusty Armor" by Robert Fisher tells the story of a knight who, rather than taking it off at the end of each day, had worn his armour continuously for so long that it had rusted up until it had almost become a part of him, and it was virtually impossible to remove.

Just like taking off our clothes and our make up each time we return home, by getting naked, physically and emotionally, and removing the armour we put on to protect us when we leave the house, we reveal our "real" selves. When, in this way,  we can be who we really are, without pretence and without bluster, when we know there is no need to hide anything, we can really be at peace.

By being honest and open we are walking the path to happiness—our own, as well as that of those around us—because happiness really is a path; not a destination. There really is nothing like getting naked to put us on the right track: in our opinion, everyone should try it!
